Association between umbilical cord glucocorticoids and blood pressure at age 3 years Susanna Y Huh, Ruth Andrew, Janet W Rich-Edwards, Ken P Kleinman, Jonathan R Seckl, Matthew W Gillman BMC Medicine 2008, 6:25 (28 August 2008) An increased cortisol/cortisone ratio in venous umbilical cord blood is associated with increased systolic blood pressure at age 3, suggesting that in utero exposure to maternal glucocorticoids may predispose to hypertension in later life.
