More than half of a surveyed sample of Norwegian doctors in their fourth or ninth year after graduation self-prescribed medication in the past year; those who started self-prescribing just after leaving medical school were more likely to self-prescribe later in life.

A systematic review of 50 randomized controlled trials concludes that despite side effects such as sedation and a considerable placebo response, chlorpromazine is effective for the treatment of schizophrenia, backing the WHO recommendation.
