Multispectral imaging improves tracking of cell dynamics in vivo

Tracking single cells in order to understand how cell migration is coordinated in developing embryos is experimentally difficult in dense populations. A multispectral labeling technique that confers on each cell a unique spectral fingerprint provides a new tool for tracking migrating cells. This guest image from BMC Developmental Biology shows 3-color labeling of cells in the chick neural crest for cell contact analysis.
