Spartin, which is mutated in hereditary spastic paraplegias, recruits E3 ligases to lipid droplets

The E3 ligase AIP4, labeled in red, shows no association with lipid droplets (green) in HeLa cells. It is recruited to the droplets in cells cotransfected with the gene encoding the multifunctional protein spartin, which here acts as an adaptor that is inferred to function in lipid turnover.
