Robo signaling guides endothelial cell migration
The axon guidance molecules Roundabouts (Robos) have recently been shown to play a role in vascular guidance as well. The role of Robo1 and Robo4 in endothelial cells was investigated via siRNA-mediated depletion. In particular, Robo4 knockdown in endothelial cells leads to up regulation of Rho GTPases, a loss of organized actin stress fibers and reduced chemotaxis. Shown is a confocal image of endothelial cells expressing the control siRNA and displaying a normal cytoskeleton. F-actin is stained with phalloidin (in red) and nuclei with DAPI (in blue).
