MAP(RA4) is expressed in postmitotic retinal cellsExpression of a microtubule associated protein recognized by the RA4 antibody (MAP(RA4)) is not exclusive to ganglion cells in the developing chick retina as previously thought. Image shows embryonic day 3 retina processed for immunolabeling of MAP(RA4) (green) and incorporation of a nucleoside analogue, 5-ethynyl-2 deoxyuridine (EdU; magenta). Only MAP(RA4) positive cells that are closest to the ventricular surface are EdU positive indicating that the majority of cells expressing MAP(RA4) have already withdrawn from the cell cycle. MAP(RA4) positive cells correspond to precursors of all retinal neuronal cell types.
