Altered lens differentiation in Ras transgenic embryos
Transgenic mice that expressed a constitutively active version of human H-Ras in their lenses and corneas were generated to examine whether activated Ras can mimic the effects of FGF signaling on ocular development. Ras transgenic embryos showed distinctive alterations in the architecture of the lens (red), as visualized by expression of a transcription factor (Pax6), which is crucial for lens specification. At E 13.5, endogenous Pax6 expression was examined by immunohistochemistry. Nuclei (blue) were stained with DAPI.
