Modulating body size and tail development in the worm
The localization of the C. elegans body size and male tail development regulator LON-8 is determined by a signal peptide. When this signal peptide is deleted, LON-8 localization changes from being only in the posterior gut to being concentrated in the pharynx and mid-body regions. A differential interference contrast microscopy image is to the left, with the corresponding fluorescence microscopy image to the right (lon-8::gfp lacking signal peptide, in green).
