This horse had been on topical antibiotic treatment for a stromal ulcer infected by ß-hemolytic streptococci for a week before being referred for CXL. Panels B) to E) show the appearance of the cornea from 5 days up to 12 months after CXL in combination with topical and systemic medication (B) = 5, C) = 13, D) = 20 days and E) = 12 months). Notice the formation and rejection of necrotic material (arrow) in the ventral part of the ulcer at 13 days. Scarring is minimal a year after treatment.
