Course of the body weight gain (Figure 1A), body temperature (Figure 1B) and clinical scores (Figure 1C) were recorded in experimental groups of three weeks old, colostrum-deprived piglets inoculated with either a combination of PCV2 and PRRSV (PCV2/PRRSV), PCV2 and PPV (PCV2/PPV), or phosphate buffered saline (controls). For each experimental group consisting of eight (PCV2/PPV) or nine animals (PCV2/PRRSV, controls) data were collected for a period of 26 days post inoculation. Rectal temperatures were measured twice daily and clinical scores were determined based on a collection of predefined clinical symptoms ranging from no disease (0) to severe disease (3). Arrows (↑) indicate time of sampling for SELDI-TOF protein profiling.
