The threshold staircase hypothesis. The “threshold hypothesis” is presented in accordance with results from the present study as a staircase of growth hormone (GH) dose needed for an effect (no scaling). Dose–response thresholds for metabolic markers represent different metabolically active tissues or metabolic functions compared with the longitudinal growth response.
