in both men and women.* * Means of habitual gait speed were adjusted for age, race, body mass index categories,
smoking status, alcohol consumption, use of walking devices, co-morbidities (hypertension,
chronic lung disease, heart disease, and arthritis), markers of nutrition and cardiovascular
risk (natural-log-transformed levels of folate, vitamin B12, total cholesterol, homocysteine and C-reactive protein), and peak leg strength.
