Fucoidan increases the levels of cleaved caspases and reduces the levels of the inhibitor of apoptosis proteins in HT-29 cells. Cells were treated with various concentrations of fucoidan for 60 h, as shown in Figure 1. Cell lysates were analyzed via Western blotting with the indicated antibodies. Photographs of chemiluminescent detection of the blots, which were representative of three independent experiments, are shown. The relative abundance of each band to its own β-actin was quantified, and the control levels (0 μg/mL fucoidan) were set to 1 except for caspase-3, for which 1 is set to 5 μg/mL of fucoidan.
