This graph shows the reduction in sensory neurons (top) and in hair cells (bottom)
between 7-day old wildtype and Brn3c null mutant littermates. Note the sharp reduction to 1% in the cochlear immature hair cells (bottom) whereas
spiral sensory neurons (SG) are only reduced by 50% (top). In contrast, 20% immature
hair cells could be identified in vestibular sensory epithelia (saccule has been selected;
bottom) whereas only around 15% of the vestibular sensory neurons survive to this
age (VG; top). For details on the data see Table 1.
