The severity of colitis was monitored by evaluating the histopathological changes in colons of IL-10-/- mice on B6 background that received 200 μl of cream milk or 104 CFU of live or heat-killed M. avium paratuberculosis in cream milk. Following the sacrifice of mice 14 weeks later, colons were fixed, sectioned at 6 μm and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The sections were microscopically examined and scored for the severity of colitis. The data presented are the mean ± SEM colitis score. Asterisks indicate statistically significant differences, i.e., p < 0.01 between experimental and the control group. |
