In the case of trees displaying contradictions, such as T₁ and T₂ on the relative position of E, it can be preferable to propose a non-plenary supertree, such as ST₂. In this way, more information on the evolutionary relationships among the remaining species can be obtained. ST₁ is inferred by MRP, ST₂ by PhySIC_IST. PhySIC produces a star tree on this example.
