Induction curves for the HSL-inducible system in different copy number contexts. The HSL-inducible device (HSLRFP ) was characterized in the exponential phase after at least 50 minutes from the induction in a microplate reader. For each copy number condition, the curve is expressed in absolute arbitrary units of Scell (left vertical axis) and in RPUs (right vertical axis), computed as the ratio between the Scell of the inducible device and the Scell of the J23101 promoter (via the 101RFP measurement device) in the same growth and copy number condition, considering the same reporter gene (RFP). Experimental data were fitted with a Hill function (continuous line) and the estimated parameters are reported in the boxes with their coefficients of variation. Error bars represent the 95% confidence intervals of the mean value (circles) computed on 3 clones.
