APC waivers and discounts

BioMed Central offers waivers and discounts for article processing charges (APCs) for papers whose corresponding authors are based in low-income countries.

BioMed Central offers APC waivers to papers whose corresponding authors are based in countries classified by the World Bank as low-income economics as of July 2017.

Papers whose corresponding authors are based in countries with  lower-middle-income economies and with a 2016 gross domestic product (GDP) of less than 200 billion US dollars are eligible for a 50% discount (reference - World Bank 1st July 2017).

Please request your waiver or discount at the point of submission.

For information about our discretionary waiver and discount policies for authors in financial need, please see here.

APC waivers are not offered for open access publication in Springer Nature subscription journals offering a hybrid option, as authors without the funds to publish open access in these journals can publish via the subscription route. See here for further information on hybrid journals in Springer and Palgrave imprints and hybrid academic journals on nature.com.
