Institute for Christian Studies Embraces Open Access
21 Oct 2013
BioMed Central is pleased to welcome the Institute for Christian Studies (ICS) in Toronto, Canada, as one of its new Open Repository clients.
Open Repository is a hosted solution from BioMed Central that builds and maintains repositories for institutions, allowing an organization to digitally archive and showcase their intellectual output to a larger and unrestricted audience.
The ICS is an independent graduate school for interdisciplinary philosophy. Through collaborative learning, research, and public outreach, they help people engage the ideas and issues that shape today’s complex world. Drawing on the humanities and social sciences, they address questions of truth, justice and social ethics from both theological and philosophical perspectives.
Robert Schatz, BioMed Central’s Business Development Manager, said “Repositories play an essential role in securing and disseminating important research. I’m pleased that Open Repository will be helping the Institute for Christian Studies showcase the work being done by its researchers.”
Besides taking advantage of Open Repository's usual array of services, ICS had to acquire a repository that would be harvestable under Library/Archives Canada (LAC) standards. Taking specifications provided by ICS, Open Repository was able to come up with a solution to meet their requirements. We look forward to bringing up the new ICS repository in 2013.
“This project represents an important step in the contribution of ICS to the enrichment of future scholarship as the publications and theses produced within these walls become widely available for both disciplined research and casual inquiry. The voices of ICS, past and present, deserve to be heard, and the scholars of the future need to hear them.” [Matthew Johnson, MA Cand.]
The ICS are launching their repository on 21 Oct 2013, during Open Access week.
