Bioinformatics for understanding, predicting and engineering toxins

New Content ItemCall for papers in the Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases.

Edited by Maria Elena de Lima and Liza Figueiredo Felicori Vilela

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field of study that uses software tools to extract knowledge from biological data; therefore, it combines computer science, biology, mathematics and engineering to analyze and interpret these data. Bioinformatics comprises the collection, storage, retrieval, manipulation and modelling of data for analysis, visualization or prediction.

The aim of this thematic series is to explore the advances and limitations of computational methods, algorithms and statistical methods in studying toxins obtained from animals, plants and microorganisms. Thus, the series will accept submissions that demonstrate the essential use of bioinformatics in toxinology. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to: toxin database, toxin modeling, toxin design, venominformatics, venomics, peptidomics, toxicity prediction, toxin computational epitope mapping, toxin-partner interaction prediction, toxin sequence and structure analysis, and toxin evolution.

The proposed deadline for submissions is October 31, 2018. The editors invite you to share your knowledge on this exciting subject and submit your manuscript for consideration.

Manuscripts should be formatted according to our submission guidelines and submitted via the online submission system. In the submission system please make sure the correct collection title is chosen from the additional information tab. Please also indicate clearly in the covering letter that the manuscript is to be considered for the “Bioinformatics for understanding, predicting and engineering toxins” series.

If you would like to enquire about the suitability of a manuscript for consideration, please email a pre-submission enquiry to editorial@jvat.org.br.
