Submission Status: Open   |   Submission Deadline: 10 February 2025

BMC Veterinary Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on Advances in breeding and genetics to support sustainable livestock systems.

This Collection aims to explore innovative technologies tailored to enhance sustainability within livestock production systems. With the increasing demand for livestock products worldwide, it's crucial to adopt sustainable breeding and genetics practices to maintain the resilience and productivity of livestock systems. Innovative methods targeting disease resistance, climate resilience, and resource efficiency in animal agriculture are essential for fostering sustainable livestock systems and improving animal welfare while mitigating environmental impacts and bolstering global food security initiatives.

New Content ItemThis Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production.

About the Collection

BMC Veterinary Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on Advances in breeding and genetics to support sustainable livestock systems.

As global demands for livestock products continue to rise, there is an urgent need for sustainable breeding and genetics practices to ensure the resilience and productivity of livestock systems. Innovative approaches to supporting sustainable livestock systems address key challenges including disease resistance, climate resilience, and resource efficiency in animal agriculture. Understanding the intricacies of breeding and genetics in the context of sustainable livestock systems can improve animal welfare and productivity but also mitigate environmental impacts and contribute to global food security efforts.

We invite submissions of original research articles, reviews, case studies, and perspectives that explore the multifaceted aspects of sustainable livestock genetic and breeding techniques. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Application of precision diagnostics in companion animal care
  • Personalized treatment approaches for animal health conditions
  • Integration of data analytics and artificial intelligence in veterinary practice
  • Advancements in precision nutrition for optimizing animal health and performance
  • Genomic selection for disease resistance in livestock
