Community guidelines

We welcome your opinions and encourage active and lively debate directly relevant to published content. By commenting on articles published in our journals, you are agreeing to abide by the following community guidelines. We reserve the right to delete, move or otherwise alter comments posted by users if they are deemed to violate these guidelines. We reserve the right to change these guidelines at any time.


We ask that you:

  • Consider that this is a public forum and that you are legally responsible for the comments you submit.
  • Ensure that your comment is as clear as possible so it is easy for others to understand and that any sources are cited appropriately.
  • Be constructive and courteous, and ensure your comment is directly relevant to the article and focused on the science. This is not a forum to present your own findings or hypotheses.
  • Don’t post anything that contains any material that is abusive, vulgar, obscene, hateful, fraudulent, unlawful, threatening, or harassing towards any person, whether a user on this blog or not. Don’t defame others.
  • Don’t post any material which may be discriminatory or cause offence on the grounds of an individual’s sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or working status.
  • Don’t plagiarize.
  • Posts to promote products or services are not permitted. If you’d like to advertise on the site please contact our advertising team.
  • Ensure you have permission to reproduce third-party content. All such content should be cited/credited appropriately.
  • Don’t post any medical advice, or accept any medical advice from other users.
  • Use your real and full name when posting comments. Don’t impersonate anyone else, including, but not limited to, any Springer Nature staff, journal editors, or authors, or suggest that you have an affiliation with a person or association if you do not. Any potential conflict of interest should be declared.
  • Don’t upload, post, transmit, or make available, any material that contains viruses or any other computer code, programs or files designed to destroy, interrupt, or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.
  • Report any comments that violate these guidelines.
