About the Collection

Regional anesthesia has gained prominence in various surgical procedures in recent years, particularly with the widespread adoption of ultrasound in anesthesia practice. Regional anesthesia plays a crucial role in perioperative care. Targeting specific nerves, nerve plexuses, or fascial planes can provide excellent pain relief both during and after surgery. This not only enhances patient comfort but also contributes to improved recovery. Moreover, regional anesthesia minimizes the need for general anesthesia and systemic analgesics, thereby reducing the risk of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and respiratory depression.

BMC Anesthesiology is calling for submissions to our collection, Regional anesthesia and acute pain. This collection aims to advance the comprehension and application of regional anesthesia techniques in acute pain management, and provide an influential platform, fostering collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and academics. Our goal is to share groundbreaking insights, explore cutting-edge methodologies, and collectively address key challenges within the realm of regional anesthesia and acute pain management.

We invite submissions from all aspects of this developing field, including, but not limited to:

  • Clinical applications of regional anesthesia (neuroaxial, non-neuroaxial, and fascial plane blocks)
  • Technological advancements and innovations
  • Indications for peripheral nerve blocks
  • Regional anesthesia and nerve injury
  • Assessment of neurologic complications of regional anesthesia
  • Quality improvement and patient safety
