Genome Biology is calling for submissions to our Collection on population genetics studies in non-human primates that advance our understanding of their evolutionary history, genetic diversity, and adaptation.

Dr Jeffrey Rogers has worked for more than 30 years in the field of primate genetics and genomics. His work includes surveys of genetic variation among nonhuman primates in research colonies, with the goal of identifying novel primate models of human genetic disease. His work also includes multiple genetic studies of natural populations of nonhuman primates. One long-term interest is the population genetics of Papio baboons with particular focus on baboon genetic diversity, speciation and inter-species introgression. Dr Rogers’ laboratory has developed new whole genome reference assemblies for various primates, including Papio baboons, common marmosets (Callitrhix jacchus), owl monkeys (Aotus nancymaae), sooty mangabeys (Cercebus atys) and the gray mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus).

These studies provide valuable insights into their evolutionary history, genetic diversity, and adaptation. Advancing our understanding of non-human primate population genetics is crucial for interpreting the population structure and evolution of primate species, vital for effective conservation strategies, and to provide important context for human evolution and disease genetics. Important advances in this area include the use of genomic data to understand the demographic history of primate populations, the identification of genetic variants associated with specific traits, and the development of non-invasive genetic monitoring techniques.
