BMC Biomedical engineering is calling for submissions to our Collection on Point-of-care diagnostics. This Collection welcomes submissions on the development, novel applications and/or major improvements of point-of-care diagnostic devices. This includes, but is not limited to, lateral flow testing, immunoassays and molecular point-of-care testing.

Shalini Prasad, PhD, University of Texas Dallas, USA

Shalini Prasad, PhD, is Cecil H. and Ida A. Green Professor of Systems Biology and the Department Head of Bioengineering at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Texas Dallas, USA. Dr Prasad is Director of the Biomedical Microdevices and Nanotechnology Laboratory, which develops novel sensor technologies ranging from wearable technologies, portable diagnostics to defense and environmental monitors. She is a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Society of Laboratory Automation and Screening. Dr Shalini is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime achievement award for her contributions to higher education and entrepreneurship. 

About the Collection

BMC Biomedical Engineering is calling for submissions to our Collection on Point-of-care diagnostics. 

Point-of-care (POC) diagnostics, defined as diagnostics at or near the site of patient care, has recently gained increased popularity due to its quicker turnaround and comparable accuracy to standard laboratory testing. It enables fast clinical decision-making, leading to improved clinical outcome and patient service. It can also be instrumental in reducing hospital admissions.

This Collection welcomes submissions on the development, novel applications and/or major improvements of POC diagnostic devices. This includes, but is not limited to, lateral flow testing, immunoassays and molecular POC testing.

In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 3, which seeks to ensure health and well-being for all, this collection emphasizes the importance of improving healthcare accessibility, enabling early disease detection, and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare delivery.

Submission Guidelines

This Collection welcomes submission of original Research Articles and Software Articles. Review articles will be considered at the Editor’s discretion. Should you wish to submit a different article type, please read our submission guidelines to confirm that type is accepted by the journal. Articles for this Collection should be submitted via our submission system, Snapp. During the submission process you will be asked whether you are submitting to a Collection, please select "Point-of-care diagnostics" from the dropdown menu.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
