BMC Medical Imaging is calling for submissions to our Collection on open source software for medical imaging. This collection welcomes articles presenting novel developments in open-source software and informatic tools used for medical imaging. This includes the design, implementation, characterization, and use of medical imaging software throughout clinical settings as well as practical applications for positioning, segmentation, visualization, and analysis of biomedical images and related data, and image processing tools.

Kenji Hirata: Graduate School of Medicine, Hokkaido University, Japan

Dr Kenji Hirata has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine, since 2020, and currently conducts research in nuclear medicine therapy and diagnosis, and AI, while also providing daily care as the Chief of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Hokkaido University Hospital. He has been appointed as a coordinator faculty of Clinical AI Human Resources Development Program (CLAP) in Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine since 2020. He received the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine Award in 2021.

Takahito Nakajima: Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, University of Tsukuba, Japan
​​​​​​​Dr Takahito Nakajima Graduated from Gunma University in JAPAN, Medical Faculty and joined the National Cancer Center, USA. He worked as a visiting researcher in the National cancer center, USA. Afterwards, he became a Professor at Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, University of Tsukuba.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
