Guest Editors: Rob Knight, Ruth Ley, Elizabeth Grice, Jeroen Raes
Microbiome research is helping us to understand the pervasive influence of microbial life on ourselves and our living planet. Recent advances in sequencing, proteomic, and metabolomic technologies, as well as analytical and computational tools, are generating valuable insights into the biology of microbial communities, and their impact on their surroundings and their hosts. Microbiome research has thus integrated the diverse fields of microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics, cell and developmental biology and health and medicine, among others.
Genome Biology and BMC Biology are currently inviting submissions to their upcoming joint special issue on Microbiome Biology. Scheduled for publication in spring 2019, this special issue will bring together microbiome research of exceptional interest, alongside commissioned review and comment articles from leaders in the field.
The special issue will be guest edited by Rob Knight (UC San Diego, USA), Ruth Ley (MPI for Developmental Biology, Tuebingen, Germany), Elizabeth Grice (University of Pennsylvania, USA) and Jeroen Raes (KU Leuven, Belgium). The guest editors will have an advisory role to guide the scope of the issue and provide advice on commissioned content, but will not be involved in the editorial decision making on all papers submitted.
Submission deadline: January 31st 2019
We will accept Research, Method and Software manuscript submissions presenting outstanding contributions to diverse areas of microbiome research, including (but not limited to) the following areas:
• Environmental and soil microbiomes
• Microbial ecology
• Microbial evolution
• Microbial metabolism
• Drug interactions and resistance
• Host-microbiome interactions
• The regulation of the microbiome in health and disease
How to submit
Please use the online submission system for your chosen journal and indicate in your cover letter that you would like the manuscript to be considered for the 'Microbiome' special issue. You may also request joint consideration of a submission by both Genome Biology and BMC Biology. If you would like to inquire about the suitability of a manuscript for consideration, please email a pre-submission inquiry to email@example.com or BMCBiologyEditorial@biomedcentral.com
