Personal reflections on the basic science funding environment in Canada in 2015

Published in Canadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease

Commissioned by Sunny Hartwig, former KRESCENT trainee, basic scientist, and Associate Editor of CJKHD, these five essays provide personal insights into the impact that the current funding success rate has on basic science programs and those who lead them. These different voices tell a story of a world in which success is not just hard won but always temporary; they delineate the personal and societal price we pay for the combination of our current peer review system and funding success rate.
