The application of engineering principles to biological processes has enabled the construction of new, rationally designed, biological components and systems, as well as the adaptation of natural ones for diverse purposes. For this series, BMC Biology have invited Reviews, Opinions and Q&As from leaders in the fields, covering the recent advances in the design and manipulation of biological systems, as well as new tools and technologies inspired by biology.
We are inviting the submission of Research, Methodology, and Registered Report manuscripts providing outstanding contributions on this topic, and including, but not limited to, the following fields:
- Protein Design
- Synthetic Biology
- Metabolic Engineering
- Tissue Engineering
- Biosynthesis
- Gene Therapy
- Genome Editing
- Biomaterials
- Drug Development
- Organoids
To submit research and methodology articles for the series please upload your manuscript via our webpage, and indicate in your covering letter that you would like the manuscript to be considered for the ‘Engineering Biology’ series. We also welcome presubmission inquiries; please email us at bmcbiologyeditorial@biomedcentral.com if you wish to inquire whether your manuscript may be appropriate for the series.
We are flexible with regard to the format and style of initial submissions, and journal-specific formatting is required only once manuscripts reach the later stages of the publication process. Moreover, we accept direct transfers from the bioRxiv preprint server. Here are other ways in which we serve our authors, including scoop protection, co-submissions and more.
