About the Collection

BMC Medical Education is calling for submissions to its Collection on Educational psychology.

This Collection aims to explore the dynamic interplay between psychology and education within health professions training, shedding light on the psychological principles that underpin effective teaching and learning in the medical field.

Educational psychology is the bedrock of understanding how students absorb, process, and retain knowledge. In the context of medical education, these insights are crucial for developing innovative teaching methods, enhancing learner engagement, and ultimately improving patient care outcomes. We invite scholars, educators, and practitioners to submit contributions that delve into the psychological aspects of medical education. Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Cognitive Processes in Learning: Investigations into how medical students process and retain complex information, and the cognitive strategies that can enhance their learning experiences.
  • Motivation and Engagement: Studies exploring what drives medical students to excel, and the interventions that can sustain their motivation and engagement throughout their education.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Research on the psychological impacts of various assessment methods and how they can be designed to better support learning and professional development.
  • Emotional and Social Aspects: Insights into the emotional challenges faced by medical students, such as stress and burnout, and the social dynamics within medical training environments.
  • Technology and Innovation: The role of technology in shaping educational practices, including the psychological effects of virtual and augmented reality, simulation-based learning, and other digital tools.
  • Teaching Strategies and Curriculum Design: Analyses of effective teaching methodologies and curriculum designs informed by psychological theories, and their impact on learning outcomes.

We are particularly interested in contributions that bridge theory and practice, offering actionable insights for educators and policy-makers. Submissions that incorporate interdisciplinary approaches and diverse perspectives are highly encouraged.

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education.
