BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth is calling for submissions to our Collection on Digital tools for maternal health and wellness. 

This Collection aims to bring together the latest advances and research findings in the integration of digital health technologies that are transforming the landscape of maternal healthcare, pregnancy monitoring, and obstetric outcomes. Maternal health and wellness are critical facets of public health and healthcare systems worldwide. While significant progress has been made in recent decades to reduce maternal mortality and improve obstetric outcomes, challenges persist. Digital solutions have emerged as powerful tools to transform the landscape of maternal healthcare. Digital health technologies, encompassing mobile health (mHealth), eHealth, wearable devices, telemedicine, and data analytics, offer unprecedented opportunities to address these challenges comprehensively.

Theoneste Nkurunziza, MPH, MSc, School of Medicine and Health, Technical University of Munich, Germany

Mr Nkurunziza is a Global Health Researcher and a doctoral candidate at the Technical University of Munich. He has a particular interest in improving access to healthcare and the use of mobile health (mHealth) in enhancing healthcare delivery. His publications portray his expertise in global surgery and maternal and child health in low-income countries. His current projects explore the use of mHealth and Telemedicine to break barriers to post-discharge follow-up for women who undergo cesarean section in resource-limited and rural settings. He further contributes to the science by serving on editorial boards and reviewing for BMC Series research journals.

Renato Souza, MSc, MD, PhD, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Campinas, Brazil

Dr Souza specializes in OB-GYN and high-risk pregnancy care and has dedicated his career in developing novel research to improve maternal and perinatal health. He was responsible for implementing and coordinating multicenter studies in Brazil within the Brazilian Network for Studies in Reproductive and Perinatal Health in recent years. He also developed and coordinated an international initiative on Perinatal Health including collaborators from Brazil, the UK and, Australia. Dr Souza has participated as a consultant for the World Health Organization in the intrapartum and antepartum care initiatives which aim to implement digital solutions for pregnant and postpartum women. He is a member of the High-risk Pregnancy Committee of the Brazilian Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (FEBRASGO).

Digital health technologies, encompassing mobile health (mHealth), eHealth, wearable devices, telemedicine, and data analytics, offer unprecedented opportunities to address these challenges comprehensively. 

This Collection aims to bring together the latest advances and research findings in the integration of digital health technologies that are transforming the landscape of maternal healthcare, pregnancy monitoring, and obstetric outcomes. We invite clinicians and researchers in the fields of obstetrics and midwifery, maternal health, digital health technologies, wellness, mental health, implementation science, and public health to contribute research submissions that explore topics including, but not limited to, digital health innovations, antenatal and pregnancy monitoring, telehealth and telemedicine in maternal care, health informatics systems, patient engagement and education, mobile app design, and challenges in digital technology integration. 

This Collection aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 5: Gender Equity.
