British geneticist Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, the inventor of DNA fingerprinting, is widely considered the founder of forensic genetics. In honour of Alec Jeffreys' extensive career and his retirement in 2012, Investigative Genetics has published a special series on DNA fingerprinting.
