About the Collection

BMC Psychology launches this collection to showcase new research on the connections between cognition and emotion, including subjective reports, behavioral data, psychophysiology, and neural activity.

There has been an increasing interest in the relationship between cognition and emotion throughout the past decades. In recent years, researchers in cognitive science have turned their attention to the intersection of emotions and artificial intelligence and other digital technologies.

From an evolutionary perspective, emotions play an important part in our survival, and emotions permeate our everyday lives, influencing our wellbeing as well as our interactions with people, technology, and artificial intelligence. Emotions influence human cognition and decision making, shaping one’s responses to their social and physical environment.

Emotions are expressed through changes in speech, facial expression, posture and other physiological processes, and these changes provide essential clues to a person’s motivations, beliefs, desires, intentions, and future behavior. We welcome original research–theoretical, qualitative, or quantitative–on the relationship between cognition and emotions, especially as it intersects with AI and other digital technologies.
