Biophysical Models of Cell Behavior

This Special Issue on “Biophysical models of cell behavior” is dedicated to the review of the state of the art in the modeling of several key aspects of cellular behavior using physics-based concepts. Topics covered include bioengineering thermodynamics of biological cells, cell-to-cell communication (signalling), origin of cell differentiation, and bioelectric gradients in development. The diffusion behaviour of biomolecules within cells and the molecular features of breast cancer are also explored.

  1. Gravity, especially hypergravity, can affect the morphology of membranes, and further influence most biological processes. Since vesicle structures are relatively simple, the vesicle can be treated as a vital ...

  2. This study is mainly motivated by the need of understanding how the diffusion behavior of a biomolecule (or even of a larger object) is affected by other moving macromolecules, organelles, and so on, inside a ...

  3. One of the major issues in current pharmaceutical development is potential hepatotoxicity and drug-induced liver damage. This is due to the unique metabolic processes performed in the liver to prevent accumula...

  4. Cells are open complex thermodynamic systems. They can be also regarded as complex engines that execute a series of chemical reactions. Energy transformations, thermo-electro-chemical processes and transports ...
