Biophilic Urbanism

Biophilic Urbanism

Sustainable Earth welcomes submissions to the article collection on 'Biophilic Urbanism'.

This article collection is dedicated to the opportunities and priorities for biophilic urbanism to shape vibrant and livable cities.

Cities continue to be at the center of business, life and culture, with ‘urban’ living already the norm for more than half of humanity. The form and function of these spaces are influenced by a multitude of factors including urban migration, aging, climate change, technology innovation and resource availability. Now more than ever, citizens and governments are seeking solutions for thriving in this dynamic, exploring innovations for clean air, clean water, and clean energy, in addition to improved wellbeing, and social cohesion. In seeking solutions towards thriving in a changing world, there has been some recognition of the potential for re-learning and incorporating age-old wisdom. Unique and exciting opportunities to combine old and new learnings have been created. Biophilic urbanism is one such approach that unites intuitive knowing and understandings with contemporary knowledge and technologies to bring together multiple disciplines in creating vibrant, livable and resilient future cities. Biophilic urbanism creates powerful personal and collective experiences that are inherently good for us and for the planet. We are keen to deepen insights into the potential for scaling-up the integration of such outcomes in our cities globally, seeking contributions from authors exploring the use and impacts of patterns, places, forms, materials, sounds and smells of nature, in addition to methodologies, approaches, processes, and provocations for creative design, good governance, and forward thinking in this field.
