BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation is calling for submissions to our Collection on Youth sports and fitness. Youth sports participation and fitness plays an important role in maintaining healthy weight and countering physical inactivity. Studies focusing on the impacts of physical activity and sports participation have demonstrated invaluable benefits such as character development (values of sportsmanship, fair play and respect for opponents), development of strong bones and muscles, reduced risk of chronic health conditions, improved mental well-being, encouraging teamwork and cooperation, inclusivity, promoting healthy habits and reducing sedentary behavior.

Souhail Hermassi, PhD, Qatar University, Qatar

Dr Souhail Hermassi is an Associate Professor for the Department of Physical Education, College of Education at Qatar University, Qatar. Dr Hermassi has a PhD in Health, Physical Education, and Sport Science and has numerous academic publications. He has an author h index of 33 and his scientific work has been cited on 4025 occasions. According to the AD Scientific Index of ranking for scientists based on Total H. BETA VERSION, Dr Hermassi is among the Top 3% Scientists in the specified subject among the scientists.

Ana F. Silva, PhD, Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo, Portugal

Dr Ana F. Silva is an Assistant Professor at Escola Superior de Desporto de Melgaço do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo (ESDL-IPVC) and a Researcher at Research Center in Sports Performance, Recreation, Innovation and Technology – SPRINT (IPVC). She has a PhD in Sports Sciences. The current research interests are: (i) motor control, (ii) youth sports performance, and (iii) cognitive performance in sports. She is a coordinator of the Fitness for Alzheimer Project granted by the UE 2022.

BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation is calling for submissions to our Collection on Youth sports and fitness. 

Youth sports participation and fitness plays an important role in maintaining healthy weight and countering physical inactivity. Studies focusing on the impacts of physical activity and sports participation have demonstrated invaluable benefits such as character development (values of sportsmanship, fair play and respect for opponents), development of strong bones and muscles, reduced risk of chronic health conditions, improved mental well-being, encouraging teamwork and cooperation, inclusivity, promoting healthy habits and reducing sedentary behavior.

Youth sports and fitness can provide the tools and experiences necessary to lead healthier lives and this collection aims to contribute towards promoting physical activity, health and character development among children and adolescents.

This collection welcomes submissions on topics including but not limited to:

  • Childhood obesity and physical fitness/education
  • Health impacts of sports participation and fitness in youth
  • Psychological impacts of sports participation and physical fitness
  • Coaching and training (online and in-person)
  • Injury prevention
  • Multisport participation and its impact
  • Parent education
  • Inclusivity and diversity in youth sports and fitness
  • Advanced technologies in youth fitness
  • Nutrition and recovery

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
