About the Collection

BMC Veterinary Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on Veterinary telehealth and telemedicine. In today's interconnected world, the fusion of veterinary science and cutting-edge technology is revolutionizing the way we care for our animal companions. This collection aims to provide a platform for sharing insights, innovations, and advancements in this rapidly developing field.

The importance of advancing our understanding of veterinary telehealth and telemedicine cannot be overstated. Recent global events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, underscore the critical role of remote healthcare solutions in ensuring animal welfare and public health. Technological advances have made it easier than ever to deliver veterinary care to pets, livestock, and wildlife across distances. Additionally, the evolving landscape of telehealth has the potential to strengthen the bond between veterinarians, pet owners, and animals through improved communication and collaboration. As we continue to explore this dynamic field, we open doors to innovative possibilities. Imagine teleoperated surgical procedures, AI-driven diagnostic tools, and even greater integration with wearable devices. By embracing and advancing telehealth and telemedicine in veterinary care, we pave the way for a future where animals receive the highest quality care, regardless of their location, and where the client-patient-veterinarian relationship thrives in an interconnected world.

The collection seeks to explore a wide range of topics related to this transformative field, including, but not limited to:

  • Teleconsultation and Remote Diagnosis: Innovative methods and technologies that facilitate remote consultations, enabling veterinarians to diagnose and advise on a variety of animal health issues without the need for in-person visits.
  • Telemonitoring and Data Analytics: Research on monitoring systems, wearable devices, and data analytics tools that provide real-time insights into an animal's health, enabling early detection of illnesses and proactive interventions.
  • Telepharmacy and Medication Management: Articles focusing on telepharmacy services, online prescription management, and the responsible use of medications in the realm of veterinary telehealth.
  • Digital Record-Keeping and Information Exchange: Exploration of electronic health records, secure data sharing platforms, and communication tools that streamline the exchange of information among veterinarians, pet owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Ethical and Regulatory Aspects: Discussions on the ethical considerations, regulatory frameworks, and best practices that govern veterinary telehealth and telemedicine, ensuring the welfare of animals and the maintenance of professional standards.

We invite submissions from veterinarians, researchers, scientists, and practitioners who are passionate about the intersection of veterinary science and telemedicine. Whether you are an experienced professional, an early-career researcher, or a dedicated pet owner with a unique perspective to share, we encourage you to submit your work and be a part of this exciting discourse.
