Submission Status: Open   |   Submission Deadline: 25 November 2024

BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies is calling for submissions to our collection on Advances in mycotherapy.

This collection welcomes studies that investigate the bioactive compounds, pharmacological properties and potential therapeutic applications of medicinal mushrooms. We also welcome studies that evaluate the efficacy and safety of mycotherapy along with regulatory challenges of the commercialization of mycotherapeutic products. Observational studies that look at prevalence, patterns of use, and ethnomycological insights into the use of mushrooms as medicine are also of interest.

About the Collection

BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies is calling for submissions to our collection on Advances in mycotherapy.

This collection welcomes studies that investigate the bioactive compounds, pharmacological properties and potential therapeutic applications of medicinal mushrooms. We also welcome studies that evaluate the efficacy and safety of mycotherapy along with regulatory challenges of the commercialization of mycotherapeutic products. Observational studies that look at prevalence, patterns of use, and ethnomycological insights into the use of mushrooms as medicine are also of interest.

The field of mycotherapy focuses on the development of extracts and compounds obtained from mushrooms for medicines or supplements. However, for centuries, mushrooms have been a key player in traditional medicine. The discovery of penicillin in 1928 gave way to our capability to extract and identify active ingredients of mushrooms. Modern medical research has shed light on the numerous pharmacological actions of mushrooms, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antidiabetic, to name a few. Uncovering and characterizing further the potential medical benefits of mushrooms along with its safety profile is essential to supplement the growing interest of medicinal mushrooms as adjuvants to conventional therapies. Given its ancient history and remarkable resilience, mycotherapy emerges as a field deserving significant attention.
