Inflammation and its role in thrombosis
Prof Domenico Prisco
This collection of articles in Thrombosis Journal looks at the relationship between the coagulation and immune systems and goes on to investigate this relationship in a number of conditions, such as systemic lupus erythematosus and intestinal bowel disease.
In recent years it has become increasing clear that the immune system and coagulation pathways interact and influence one another. Inflammation-induced thrombosis is considered a feature of several autoimmune diseases and thus such findings have important consequences for the treatment and management of such diseases.
