Latika Nirula: University of Toronto, Canada

Dr. Latika Nirula is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. She has a PhD from the University of Toronto in Developmental Psychology and Education. 

Dr. Nirula leads the Centre for Faculty Development (CFD) as Director, providing academic and operational leadership across the Centre’s initiatives to advance faculty development across the health system locally, nationally and internationally. She effectively applies her academic, teaching, coaching and curriculum design expertise to innovative faculty development utilizing EDIA and adult learning principles, simulation, and digital learning. Her current research explores the role of patient and family storytellers within CPD and faculty development. She was also the inaugural Simulation Director at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto.

Peter Dieckmann: Copenhagen Academy of Medical Education and Simulation, Denmark

Prof. Dr. Peter Dieckmann is a work and organizational psychologist, and senior scientist with the Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation (CAMES), Professor with the University in Stavanger, Norway, Associate Professor University in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is interested in patient safety, experiential learning, well-being of healthcare, gender-issues.

He is a Senior Editor on the Editorial Board of Advances in Simulation.

About the Collection

In a complex world, different perspectives help us to understand and frame challenges, and to find and construct solutions. But in healthcare, just as in the broader world, many structures and processes serve to uphold the status quo and limit new and different voices. 

With this Collection, we seek submissions that highlight the important and necessary role simulation can play in positively impacting equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusivity within health and social care. We seek conceptual, methodological, and empirical studies, as well as detailed innovative practice that helps to advance the field. To further challenge the field and advance equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion, we seek not only traditional article types, but also manuscripts that support high-quality audio-visual material, artwork, and other formats that may fall outside of the realm of traditional academic publication.

This Collection welcomes submission of original research articles. 

Should you wish to submit a different article type, please read our submission guidelines to confirm that type is accepted by the journal. Articles for this Collection should be submitted via our submission system, Editorial Management. During the submission process you will be asked whether you are submitting to a Collection, please select "The role of simulation in Equity, Diversity, Accessibly, and Inclusivity - EDAI" from the dropdown menu.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Guest Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer-review process. The peer-review of any submissions for which the Guest Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
