Jean Karl Soler: The Family Practice Malta, Malta

Dr. Jean Karl Soler has been a family doctor and occupational health specialist in Malta since the early 1990s, with a keen interest for research. He has published 15 indexed articles as first author, including highly cited articles about burnout, the International Classification of Primary Care, and the epidemiology of common conditions in primary care, including the predictive power of symptoms as diagnostic predictors within Bayesian probabilistic models. He is involved with three primary care journals in an editorial role and has been a past chairman of the European General Research Network, the research arm of WONCA Europe. He was very active in critically analysing the global response to COVID-19, including widely adopted measures which did not have a solid evidence base, and which had unprecedented social, psychological and economic impacts.

About the Collection

Dear doctors, health professionals, and medical researchers and scientists,

The Journal of Medical Case Reports, an indexed medical journal publishing case reports, was one of the first of its kind in the field of medicine. Besides medical case reports, we also publish case series, but also special article collections. The next one planned is on COVID-19.

The journal is hereby issuing an announcement of a Collection entitled “COVID-19 – a look at the past, present and future of the pandemic.” This collection will comprise case reports, case series which provide insights into all aspects of the pandemic, including about its emergence and impact, the impact of national and international responses (including travel and lockdown restrictions, mask mandates, screening and quarantine measures), vaccination and related issues (strategy, safety, efficacy, adverse events), ethical challenges, emergent variants, immunity and related emergent illness.

This is the first call for authors to submit papers for consideration for the collection, through our website. Please indicate that your submission should be considered for the “COVID-19 Collection”. The submission deadline will run until the end of January 2024.
