Immunity & Ageing is calling for submissions to our Collection on Considerations and Approaches for Cancer Immunotherapy in the Aging Host.
Although rapid advances in the field of cancer immunotherapy have greatly improved outcomes in many tumor types, others such as breast and ovarian cancer, glioblastoma, pancreatic and hepatic cancer respond poorly to currently available treatments. Despite the fact that ageing is the most common predisposing factor for most solid cancers, little is known specifically about immunosenescence, exhaustion and immune non-responsiveness to cancer immunotherapies with advancing age. With increasing life expectancy around the world, the impact of ageing on immunotherapy efficacy and safety in refractory and relapsed cancers has become an active area of research in recent years. Such considerations, findings and discussions are the thematic basis for this Topical Collection.
This collection welcomes submissions on the following topics:
• Impact of ageing on the immune system in the oncological context
• Molecular mechanisms leading to immunosenescence, exhaustion and anergy in cancer.
• Role of ageing in cancer progression.
• Mechanisms underpinning the crosstalk between ageing immune system and cancers.
• Ageing-associated metabolic dysregulation of immune cells leading to cancers.
• Novel immunotherapy approaches against cancers in ageing hosts.
• Methods to improve current immunotherapy approaches against cancers.
• Lessons learnt from clinical trials in young versus old patients.
Note: all contributions must be within the scope of the collection. The journal reserves the right to reject without review out-of-scope manuscripts. This Collection welcomes submission of reviews, original articles, commentaries, hypotheses and opinion pieces.
