BMC Ophthalmology is calling for submissions to our Collection on Advances in oculofacial plastic surgery.
Oculofacial plastic surgery encompasses a range of procedures addressing various concerns related to the eyelids, orbit, and tear ducts. This includes correcting drooping eyelids (ptosis), managing proptosis (bulging eyes), addressing tear duct blockages, and performing reconstructive surgery for trauma, cancer, or congenital abnormalities. Additionally, oculofacial plastic surgery is key for treatment of eyelid malposition, including ectropion, entropion, and eyelid laxity, aiming to restore both function and aesthetics to the eyelids and surrounding structures. This field has witnessed significant advancements in recent years, including the development of minimally invasive procedures, innovative surgical techniques, and the use of novel technologies for facial reconstruction. Consequently, patients are progressively experiencing outcomes that are both natural-looking and enduring, with enhanced functionality.
The aim of this Collection is to highlight research that focuses specifically on the medical, clinical, and reconstructive aspects of oculofacial plastic surgery. Therefore this Collection welcomes research articles that include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Reconstructive eyelid surgery
- Orbital surgery and trauma
- Tear duct disorders
- Eyelid malposition and functional disorders
- Reconstruction after oculofacial oncology treatment
- Integration of multi-disciplinary approaches in oculofacial plastic surgery treatment
This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing
