| A "We the People" White House petition went live on Sunday 20th May to help increase open access within US Federally Funded Research. Expanding access would speed up the research process and increase the return on our investment in scientific research. It is hoped that the petition will demonstrate the wide public support of open access scientific research. If it reaches 25,000 signatures within 30 days the White House have to make a formal response, so show your support and sign the petition! |

| The Editors at Edanz have pooled their expertise to create the BioMed Central author academy, a free online learning resource for authors on writing and publishing in scientific journals. As well as advice on how to structure and write a good research article, the author academy includes help on choosing a target journal and publication ethics. The academy is aimed at authors who are less experienced in writing for English-language international journals, to help increase the chance of successful publication. By working with authors in this way, we also aim to lessen the burden on scientific Editors and peer reviewers, by improving the quality of manuscripts sent out for peer review. |
