| We are pleased to announce that Cilia is now indexed in PubMed and PubMed Central. Cilia publishes cutting–edge basic and translational research on the biology of cilia and diseases associated with ciliary dysfunction. It provides a forum for sharing research and discussing this oldest known – but once forgotten – organelle, and welcomes contributions using various experimental approaches, including cell and developmental biology, human and molecular genetics, and use of model organisms. |

New affiliation and special series for Alzheimer's Research & Therapy |
Alzheimer's Research & Therapy is newly affiliated to Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), the international federation of national Alzheimer organizations. ADI works globally to focus attention on the Alzheimer's epidemic, by hosting an annual conference and campaigning for policy change from governments and the World Health Organization. Read more here. Alzheimer's Research & Therapy is also accepting research submissions for a special series on peripheral biomarkers, edited by Douglas Galasko (UCSD). Authors that submit research to this special series will be entitled to a 50% article–processing charge discount. Find out more here. |

Publishing names in the digital era |
| In a commentary published recently in Frontiers in Zoology, Alessandro Minelli calls for radical changes to zoological nomenclature. He envisages a future where the act of registering a name, with accompanying taxonomic data, would confer the availability of that name in the same way that publication does currently. |

To celebrate its tenth anniversary, BMC Biology asked its Editorial Board members to write a paragraph or two on their favorite open questions in biology, and this month it publishes the first contributions, on topics from the challenges of proteomics to the mechanisms of apoptosis.
