International Journal for Equity in Health
The International Journal for Equity in Health is launching a special issue on Multimorbidity and Equity in Health. Papers on patterns and trends of multimorbidity inequity, variations in multimorbidity burden by social characteristics, and on the impact of multimoribity inequity on health care resource use and outcomes will be considered for the issue.

A special 20% discount will be granted to papers accepted to this special issue. Please indicate in the cover letter that the paper is for consideration in the Multimorbidity and Equity in Health special issue.

Journal news

Journal logo Journal of Therapeutic Ultrasound is now accepting submissions
Journal of Therapeutic Ultrasound, a new BioMed Central journal edited by Arik Hananel and Robert Muratore, is now accepting submissions. The journal covers all aspects of therapeutic ultrasound, namely, the stimulus, inhibition, or modification of tissue function or structure via insonification. The aim of the journal is accelerate the adoption of therapeutic ultrasound as a clinical tool.
Journal logo Does insomnia lead to Alzheimer's disease?
Circadian dysfunction causes the accumulation of amyloid-beta in the brain, possibly leading to Alzheimer's disease development. In the launch of a new 'debate' article type from Alzheimer's Research & Therapy, Tracy Bedrosian and Richard O'Brien debate the pros and cons of current research.

New from BMC Biology

- The functional complexity made possible by the proteins that direct traffic between the internal membranes of eukaryotic cells lies at the heart of metazoan evolution. Sean Munro and colleagues trace the Rab family of membrane traffic proteins to its evolutionary roots.

See linked commentary: The Rabs: A family at the root of metazoan evolution.
-  David Weinkove and colleagues report an accidental discovery in C. elegans that has led them to a series of studies implicating folate in excess of needs in limiting lifespan, with interesting hints from the effects of sulfonamide drugs that the same may apply to mammals.

See linked commentary: Folate status of gut microbiome affects Caenorhabditis elegans lifespan

Wall motion stress echo analysis: keeping it simple
Cardiovascular Ultrasound 2012, 10:31
Celutkiene et al. demonstrate that conventional stress echocardiography interpretation has a better performance than off-line operator's independent quantitative methods. This study supports the paradigm that simple is better in clinical routine.
Breat Cancer Surgery Interferon regulatory factor 4 binding protein is a novel p53 target gene and suppresses cisplatin-induced apoptosis of breast cancer cells
Molecular Cancer 2012, 11:54
Ectopic expression of interferon regulatory factor 4 binding protein (IBP) is known to correlate with malignant behaviour of human breast cancer cells. In their article, Yang et al. show that IBP is a novel p53 target gene and suggest that it may serve as a target for pharmacological intervention of cisplatin resistant breast cancers.
