| Journal of Medical Case Reports published its 2000th report last week. The article, from Gahr et al., describes a novel treatment for schizophrenia in a patient with ultrarapid metabolization. The report is an example of the many important reports published by the journal in the last five years that have contributed to the expansion of medical knowledge. |

| European Journal of Medical Research has joined BioMed Central's portfolio of open access journals. The journal, launched in 1995 as a subscription publication, covers all aspects of medical research and will continue with its specific focus on clinical research. European Journal of Medical Research comes to BioMed Central with an Impact Factor of 1.09. |

New journal, Systematic Reviews, launches with commentary from the UK's Chief Medical Officer |
| Systematic Reviews, the first open access journal to provide a venue for systematic reviews in healthcare research, has launched. Systematic reviews are essential tools for evaluating bodies of evidence on the efficacy of healthcare interventions.
