PhysMath Central, BioMed Central's open access publishing platform for the fields of physics, mathematics and computer science, today announced that PMC Physics A has published its first research articles which included a groundbreaking study that could change the way physicists understand dark matter. It was also announced that PhysMath Central's second journal, PMC Physics B will be co-edited by Professor Peter Hatton and Professor Steve Buckman. The new journal will focus on condensed matter and atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics.

Open Society Institute awards grant to support Open Access Documentary Project
BioMed Central and Intelligent Televison have recently joined forces to produce the Open Access Documentary Project. The Open Society Institute has awarded a grant to support the production and distribution of the documentary, which will celebrate the benefits of open access to scientific and medical research.

Algorithms for Molecular Biology tracked by Thomson Scientific
Algorithms for Molecular Biology has been accepted for tracking by Thomson Scientific and is now on course it receive its first impact factor in June 2008.  The journal is now also indexed in BIOSIS.

   
Journal of Medical Case Reports publishes its 100th case report
We are delighted to announce the publication of the 100th case report in Journal of Medical Case Reports. Coming just over 7 months after the journal's launch, this is a fantastic achievement and highlights the journal's immediate popularity as a dedicated, open access home for case reports.
   

Holger Schünemann joins Health and Quality of Life Outcomes
We are pleased to announce that Professor Holger Schünemann has recently been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Health and Quality of Life Outcomes, and the Editorial Board has been updated to include several new Associate Editors. Many thanks go to Professor Marcello Tamburini, who will be stepping down as Editor-in-Chief later this year and whose hard work was essential for the journal's strong reputation in the field.

Intracardiac defect diagnosed after embolism

A 42 year old man with a history of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis was diagnosed with paradoxical embolism, and was found to have the intracardiac defect patent foramen ovale.
