The insect endosymbiont Wolbachia pipientis is being tested in open field release as a biocontrol agent against dengue virus in mosquitoes. In male mosquitoes we show that sperm quality and ability to repeat mate are unaffected by Wolbachia, which bodes well for its capacity to spread into wild populations.
