Cecilia Söderberg-Nauclér, born 1967 in Uppsala, was appointed Professor of Medical Microbial Pathogenesis at Karolinska Institutet in 2008. She obtained a PhD in Clinical Immunology at Karolinska Institutet in 1994 on immunological aspects of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. During her post-doctoral fellowship at the Oregon Health Sciences University, USA, she worked on CMV latency and showed that differentiation of monocytes into macrophages in response to inflammatory cytokines results in reactivation of latent CMV.
Since 2001, she has acted as research group leader for Cellular and Molecular Immunology at the Center for Molecular Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. Her research group focuses on understanding CMV pathogenesis in inflammation and cancer with a future goal to improve patient diagnosis, prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancer.
