Journal of Intensive Care is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal that encompasses all aspects of intensive care medicine. The Journal aims to publish articles contributing to the development of intensive care medical science, and to promote the exchange of ideas internationally in this and related fields. In addition, the Journal encourages submissions considering the different cultural aspects of intensive care practice.

Dr. Satoshi Gando is currently a Professor and Chairman of the Division of Acute and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine, Sapporo, Japan. He is also Director of the Critical Center, which includes the emergency room and intensive care unit at Hokkaido University Hospital.

He graduated from Hokkaido University School of Medicine and took his Doctorate in the Department of Pharmacology at Hokkaido University School of Medicine. He is board certified in Acute Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Anesthesiology, and he is a fellow of the American Society of Critical Care Medicine.

His major research interests focus on severe injury such as sepsis, trauma, and cardiac arrest and resuscitation. He has been investigating the pathogenesis of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome associated with these severe injuries in relation to disseminated intravascular coagulation.
